"You look amazing, and I'm so proud of you for not giving up", said Sasha to her reflection in the mirror.

A big smile brightened her face as she put her hands in her hair, trying to style it, then turned around, still looking at her reflection as if she couldn't believe she was the beautiful woman in the mirror. When she moved back to her hometown, Sasha was no longer the confident and ambitious woman who had decided to go live abroad to follow her heart.

Sasha fell in love during a trip to Switzerland, and even though they had known each other for just a week, she walked away from her life, family and friends to be with the man she loves. Her love story didn't have a happy ending, and she came back home a shadow of her former self.

She was still in love with him despite the pain and disappointments. In a very short time, he became her world, and life wasn't the same without him. So she locked herself away, feeling worthless and wanting to end it all. For the first time in years, she felt happy, comfortable in her own skin, and looking forward to what life had to offer.

The Day I Lost My Heart To You

Sasha, 25, a personal assistant at a marketing agency, took some time off work to go on a week-long trip to Switzerland. She was enjoying a hot cup of latte by the window of a cosy cafe in Lausanne, gazing at the busy street. The street was filled with commuters holding umbrellas, and the drumming of the rain on the window made the scene feel nostalgic.

She would have loved to stay longer, but had a busy day ahead and should get going. Sasha thanked the barista on her way out and opened an umbrella as she joined the morning commuters. A few minutes later, she was turning around a corner when she bumped into someone.

"I'm sorry, I didn't see you there."

What does he mean by he didn't see me with this pink umbrella? she whispered, lowering the said umbrella. Sasha froze as she looked at the man in front of her; he had the most beautiful and piercing eyes she had ever seen.

"Are you hurt?" He asked in a soft voice, as he gently touched her shoulder.

She blushed and took a step back.

"I'm fine, but please look where you're going", she replied in a small voice.

"You're right, and I'm not making any excuses, but I was trying to keep up with my friends and wasn't paying attention to my surroundings." He said with an awkward smile.

His smile revealed perfect teeth and cute dimples; he was a tall man in his late 20s with a distinctive accent.

Sasha smiled back, " Apologies accepted, and you'd better get going, or you'll lose your friends."

"Thank you", he whispered as he walked away.

Sasha watched him leave, then took a deep breath, as it wasn't easy to keep her composure because of the way he kept looking at her. It felt like he could see through her, and bumping into a hot guy after breakfast isn't how she thought she would start her day.

Her first encounter with the man who would change her life didn't last long enough for either of them to give it much thought. But that brief moment will be the beginning of a beautiful and painful love story.

I was at my sister's house the other day, waiting for her to make dinner, when I was inspired to write this story. There's more to Sasha's story, but I don't remember the last time I fell in love, so it won't be an easy task to express her feelings, but I'll get there eventually.

I'm also going to submit it as my final paper for my creative writing course, so wish me luck!
